What is Quality?

Have you ever purchased a product or service and been so happy with the experience that you decide to become a return customer?  Then you go back, or perhaps to a different location expecting to receive the same great experience but it falls flat in comparison? As consumers, this is an all to common reality that extends in all areas of our purchases. From small ticket items like buying a coffee to big ticket items like choosing a service provider for your company. Choosing a company that is committed to quality is one way to ensure your experience stays consistent and measurable.

Quality can be defined in many ways. Some may define quality as the degree of excellence in which something adheres to, others may define quality by how it compares to a similar product or service. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) defines quality as "the totality of features and characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs". In simpler terms, " the degree to which a set of inherent characteristics fulfills specified requirements".

One way to know that a company has a serious commitment to quality is through the ISO 9001 certification. ISO 9001 is widely regarded as the most important quality management system world wide. It brings numerous benefits to a company and most importantly these benefits get passed onto customers. Benefits such as consistency in products and services, on time service and delivery, getting it right the first time and more.

Any company with a ISO 9001 certification knows that what quality really comes down to is rather simple: "Say what you do. Do what you say. Prove It. Improve It".
